“Sleeping Hungry”

by

Picture this:

One-hundred million hallucinogens,

Twenty delusions for each one you take

And only one is close to the way things are

This is sleeping hungry

Goosebumps, cold sweats, and a crow circling your head cawing

Your jacket is stuffed with straw and grass and you post up in a mall scarecrowing

And you think your best course of action is to pose until the mall closes

This is sleeping hungry

Riffling through a thick book, nicking your finger every thirteenth page

The book is about hope and has a beautiful, uplifting message

But you bleed onto the page where the moral is spelled out

This is sleeping hungry
